Start your day early from Cochin and drive around 60 km south to reach Alleppey (Alappuzha) – a beautiful town known as the “Venice of the East.”
On arrival, get ready to board a traditional country boat (House Boat) and cruise slowly through the peaceful backwaters of Alappuzha. You will pass through narrow canals, lush green paddy fields, coconut farms, and floating houses. This region is special – farming is done below sea level, using a system of dykes and canals.
Enjoy the calm and quiet as you watch local fishermen and women, boats loaded with goods, kids crossing canals in small canoes – real life in rural Kerala.
In between the boat ride, stop at a small village and go for a gentle walk through the village lanes. See how people live, how they grow bananas, tapioca, mango, and coconut, and learn about their way of life. You will see simple homes, ducks and hens wandering, and people working in fields.
Later, you will enjoy lunch prepared in house boat, cooked with fresh catch from the backwaters – pearl spot fish, mussels, or prawns, along with rice and vegetable curry.
After the lunch and rest, return slowly on the boat soaking in the last views of the water world.
By evening, start the drive back to Cochin.
